Many people adopt bunnies because they are cute and easy to care for. What many don't know is that rabbits are very complex and intelligent animals. They can communicate and, if we observe closely, we can learn a lot about what they have to say. Here are some ways in which bunnies communicate according to Laura Salvá, author of the book Un conejito Feliz, puedes lograrlo! -Lying by your side: It means that he is relaxed and safe and enenjoys your company. If your bunny lies by your side frequently he is expressing trust. -Licking: Bunnies get clean by licking themselves. If your rabbit licks you, he is trying to bond with you. He is letting you know you are part of his family. Even though rabbits like the salty flavor of your skin, they won't lick you if they don't know you. - Going around your legs: This is a sexual behavior, and it means the bunny is in heat. Don't scare him away, pat his back and he will relax. - Scratching: When a bunny scratches the floor he probably is filing his nails. He is letting you know it is time to trim them. When females are in heat, males scratch the straw in their cage. - Growling, kicking, biting and scratching aggressively: These are defensive actions. Things that could annoy them are: touching his nose abruptly, touching his rear paws or carrying him constantly. If your bunny doesnt's accept you or is scared of you, give him time and space. Treat him with respect. - Thumping the ground: Rabbits hit the ground with their rear paws to alert other when there is danger. Then he will run and hide. He will come out when he feels safe.
